General-
Cisco, Texas was
established in 1881. This tiny community developed as a
marketing and distribution center for the surrounding
large cattle and agricultural area. It's economy was
later stimulated by the discovery of a Ranger oil pool in
1917. Today, Cisco continues as a center
for oil and gas production, diversified agriculture and
manufacturing. It is also the Home of Cisco Junior
College
Mobley Hotel-
The Mobley was
bought by Conrad Hilton in 1919. It was the only
way he could get a place to sleep at that particular time.
This little hotel became the first in the huge Hilton
Hotel chain. Hilton saw a financial opportunity in
providing rooms to oil field workers; thus, rooms were
rented for eight-hour shifts, and henceforth tripling the
tiny hotel's normal income. Now restored to it original
charm, this hotel now serves as the city's chamber of
commerce office and community center. Two rooms are
restored to the original 1919 look; another room features
an historical museum. Open for tours 9-12 & 1-5 Monday-Friday. |
