Fannin Jr., a Texas Revolutionary hero.

Battleground State Historic Site-
A handsome monument
marks site where Colonel James W. Fannin Jr. and his men
surrendered to the Mexican army after the Battle of
Coleto Creek on March 20th, 1836. Though Fannin believed
the surrender was on honorable terms, General Antonio
Lopez de Santa Anna overruled the local Mexican
commander's clemency petition and ordered the Texans
(some 342) executed at Goliad about a week later.
The park is open daily.
Facilities include water, rest rooms, electricity, and
picnic accommodations. One mile south on Park Road 27. |
