General -
Established 1885, seat of Mills County. Trade center for agricultural products including wool, mohair,
fruits, cattle, turkeys and pecans. Area was long plagued by Indian raids; in fact, Comanches and Apaches
often fought over area before first white settlers arrived. White-tailed deer popular with hunters each fall
and winter season; fishing excellent in nearby Colorado River and Pecan Bayou all year.
