General-
As with most towns on the prairies, Moran was founded as a station
when the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railroad built through Shackelford County in 1882.
First named Hulltown after Swope Hull, it's first merchant, it was renamed Hicks in
1891, and then Moran for John J. Moran, president of the railroad in 1892. The town
is a trade center for farmers and ranchers.
Moran Historical Museum-

the former First Christian Church building. Exhibits include clothing, cooking
utensils, farming tools, and items from early-day stores in the city. Also includes
the genealogy of a ranching and oil boom town. Open Mar - Oct, Thurs 2 - 5 pm. On
Waters St., two blocks south of the post office.
