Established in 1881 as stop on the Texas pacific Railroad. This city is the heart of a vast area that was once an ancient sea. This area today is known as the Permian Basin, which contains tremendous quantities of anhydrite, potassium salt, natural gas, and oil. The oil boom of 1929 brought a population growth.
