Santa Ana National Wildlife
Refuge-
About 2,000 acres of thick, bushy
growth typical of Valley before agricultural development.
Preserves and protects abundant wildlife and plant
species; many found nowhere else in U.S. Rare birds
prominent during winter season. Interpretive wildlife
tram rides operate late Nov. - mid-Apr. Private cars use
7-mile wildlife drive on days when tram isn't operating.
Walk-through access any time during daylight hours. Three
self-guided nature walks; one for wheelchairs. Visitor
center open weekends 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; (closed federal
holidays); tram ride fee. Entrance 0.4 mile east of U.S.
281/F.M. 907 intersection, some 7.5 miles south of Alamo.
